About our Studio
The MCTV studio building was built right after the 1906 earthquake, and has an undoubtedly rich history based on age alone. We only have the outlines of that history and would welcome learning more about from anyone knowing anything about the building.
What we do know is that MCTV is the fourth owner of the building
- It was completed in October 1906. It was built as Fort Braggs first silent movie house (and dentist office), called the Sierra. One story weve heard has it being built by a dentist who also made movies.
- In the 1920s it became a Finnish social hall called Runesberg (?) Hall. Finnish Social Club. By the 1960s the social hall activity dropped off and the families holding the deed sold the building to The Fort Bragg Footlighters.
- The Footlighters purchased the building in 1968 for $8,000 and the building became
The Footlighters Theatre building. There were summer performances of Gays Nineties original plays two nights a week beginning Memorial Day and going to Labor Day every year until the last play in the building in 2005.
- MCTV was offered the building as a donation by the Footlighters in the summer of 2006 and moved the station there in June 2007.
